Renters Insurance

Renters insurance is recommended for all tenants, and all landlords should encourage tenants to carry renters insurance. Although most landlords have their home insurance, the landlords' policy will not cover the tenant’s properties. The renters' policy provides the tenants' coverage for a loss in any rental property, such as an apartment, home, or even a dorm, after natural or man-made disasters such as theft, fire, vandalism, water backup damage, bodily injuries, and more. Coverage also extends to personal property that is in storage. The renters’ policy includes the following:

  • Personal property: Covers your clothing, furniture, electronics, and other belongings.

  • Loss of use: Pays for hotel stays, restaurant meals, or other expenses if the tenant has to live elsewhere while your home undergoes covered repairs.

  • Personal Liability: Pays out if the tenant is responsible for injuries to other people or damage to their property.

  • Medical payments: Covers injuries to other people in your home, regardless of fault.
